The dual rotor turbine flowmeter is the pinnacle of turbine flow measurement technology. This revolutionary patented design has allowed the use of a single turbine meter where two or more meters were once required due to a wide flow range. This results in a less complicated flow system at a reduced cost. Standard single rotor turbine meters have a stated 100:1 repeatable flow range. This turndown is only correct if the flowmeter is used on a single fluid at a constant temperature, resulting in a stable viscosity. Real-world applications rarely lend themselves to stable temperature, single viscosity applications. If a single rotor turbine meter is used across a varying viscosity single fluid, the turndown range is approximately 20:1.

Absolute Accuracy
Advanced CAD/CAM design combined with decades of development and primary standard calibration laboratory testing has produced a turbine flowmeter that is provides an absolute accuracy of +/- 0.10% of reading. This level of uncertainty is the best in the turbine flowmeter market.

Exact Flow turbine flowmeter accuracy statements have been verified through extensive testing at national, international and government primary standard testing laboratories.

Turndown Ratio
A flowmeter's turndown ratio is based on the maximum usable flow rate divided by the minimum usable flow rate. Standard single rotor turbine flowmeters have a usable turndown ratio of approximately 20:1. This is a result of drag caused by a combination of fluid viscosity and flowmeter components. The dual rotor turbine flowmeter has been designed to provide usable, accurate flow measurement far below what is available in a single rotor meter.

Exact Flow’s patented dual-rotor turbine design extends the lower flow range far below what has been possible before. As fluid passes through the meter, the dual rotors become hydraulically coupled due to their counter-rotation. This allows the rotors to overcome the inertia and drag that affects all single-rotor turbine flow meters.

Exact Flow dual-rotor turbine flowmeters have an incredible repeatable flow range of up to as much as 500:1 and a UVC turndown range of 60:1. This allows the user to deploy fewer flow meters to cover a wide range of flow. This lowers the initial purchase cost, as well as simplifying system integration and future maintenance.

Exact Dual-rotor Advantages

The Exact™ Dual-rotor (DR) design extends the turbine flow meter’s lower flow range far below traditional single rotor designs by overcoming the drag and torsional forces on the rotor. The dual rotors become hydraulically coupled, due to their counter-rotational direction. The angular flow path, onto the second rotor, overcomes the inertia due to its perpendicular force on the helical blades.

Three major physical benefits result from dual-rotor technology:

1. The ability to monitor the integrity of the bearing by looking at the frequency ratios of the both rotors.

2. The dual rotor significantly reduces flow swirl effects, eliminating the need for flow straighteners.

3. Developing of multiple viscosity calibrations or UVC plots blend over a wider flow range, yielding 60:1 usable flow ranges.

Flow Gator Field Flow Calibrator

Portable Flow Calibrator

The Flow Gator is a portable, documenting, field flow calibrator which reads signals from a master flow meter, a flow meter under test and flow temperature. With this data, the Flow Gator calculates and compares the precise flow rate from the master meter and unit under test. Up to forty points can be taken for each test meter. All flow parameters are stored in a downloadable file. Up to twenty files can be stored in memory before downloading. RS232 or RS485 downloading is available using the including graphical user interface software package. A standard USB port is also available for downloading into USB flash memory. Data for five master meters can be stored on board, as well as five different test fluids. Automatic viscosity measurement is available when using the Exact Flow Dual Rotor turbine meter as a master meter. The Flow Gator is the choice for precise, traceable, portable field flow calibrations in an easy to use and understand package.

Flow Computers

A flow computer should always be used with a turbine flowmeter if the application viscosity shifts more than ten percent from the original calibration. This shift in viscosity will produce a significant error in flow rate unless corrected for using mathematical equations to calculate viscosity shift based on temperature or input data.

IFC-15 Flow Computer

The Exact Flow IFC-15 Integral Flow Computer provides a state-of-the-art interface for today’s flowmeters. With two flowmeter inputs and one temperature input in a compact design, the IFC-15 can be combined with single and dual rotor turbine flowmeters for precise calculation and output of flow rate or total flow. The linearization, viscosity and density correction features improve flowmeter accuracy to the highest levels available today. Our newest feature allows the IFC15, with an Exact Flow Dual Rotor Turbine Meter, to automatically measure kinematic fluid viscosity.

A flow computer should always be used with turbine meters when a temperature shift or deviation from the original specified viscosity occurs. This viscosity shift will introduce significant error into the calculations unless measured or corrected for using multiple sets of viscosity calculation data and a flow computer.
